What does IP mean?
It is very important to know what IP stands for and represents.
IP stands for Ingress Protection or International Protection against intrusion and it can be from foreign particles like water and dust.
The ratings of IP is basically used to understand the quality of effectiveness of sealing.
There are 2 digits in an IP rating.
The first digit is used to measure the level of protection against solid objects. It is measured on a scale of 0 to 6 ie. IP 1X to IP 6X.
The second digit represents the level of protection against water ingress. It is measured on a scale of 0 to 8 ie. IPX1 to IP X8.
- Protection against water through a nozzle and dust is represented by IP65.
- Protection against powerful jets of water and dust is represented by IP66.
- Protection against immersion underwater and dust is represented by IP67.
Characteristics of IP certified LED Lamp
- Around 3000K warm color temperature LED lamps (IP65, IP66, IP67)
In a scientific investigation, it has been found that
- 80% of the insects swarmed around the filament lamp
- 15% went to the compact fluorescent lamp
- Only 2-3% came to two different LED lamps.
As a result of less amount of insects were attracted to the LED lights. These lights are also ideal for landscape lighting as they are pleasing to the eyes without any super brightness elements.
- A dustproof and waterproof LED lamp (IP65, IP66, IP67)
The most important element of the LED lamp is the LED chip. There is no way that water and dust will go inside it if it is IP certified. Of course, it will have extra protection if it has a dust-proof electrical enclosure. This will ensure that the LED lamp is working properly with much efficiency.
- More protection with silica gel.
The gasket surrounding the LED will be sealed with a special silica gel. This helps in preventing the insects from coming towards the LED lamps and swarming around it.
